The Hartford Treaty settles a dispute between New Netherland and New England over boundaries in Connecticut. 1650
First Anglo-Dutch War begins and lasts until 1654. 1652
Defensive wall was built across Manhattan Island because of a threat of invasion from New England. This wall is the site of the present-day Wall Street in New York City. 1653
The Swedes capture the Dutch Fort Casimir and rename it Fort Trefaltighet (or Fort Trinity). 1654

Native Americans around Manhattan attack New Amsterdam, Pavonia, and Staten Island during a conflict called the Peach War.Settlement begins at the Esopus (now Kingston, New York). 1652-3
The First Esopus War begins between the Dutch and Native Americans. 1659
The Second Esopus War begins. 1663
