Oliver Peake was christened 6 September 1590 in Eccles, Lancashire, England, the son of William Peake and Margaret Collier. Eccles is a parish about seven miles from Deane.


Oliver was a successful chapman - a merchant who bought and sold cloth. He married and had two children born in Eccles between 1616 and 1618, then seems to have moved to Deane by 1626. In Deane had had an illegitimate son in the parish of Deane in 1626. The next year Oliver married Alice Crompton 21 July 1627 in Manchester. They were both shown as being of Deane.

Oliver was a churchwarden in Deane in 1628. Oliver and Alice had two babies who both died in 1629.


There was a gap of nine years, and then Oliver had a daughter in 1638. The parish registers have a gap between 1529 and 1637. Oliver may have married again, as his widow was listed as Margery when he died three years later.


Oliver died and was buried 13 August 1641 in Deane.

The outside wrapper for Oliver Peake's inventory has a reference in Latin to "Margeria vid relict". This means that Oliver's widow and relict was Margery.



Oliver and his first wife had the following children:
