Although this is a separate parish from Newtown, it is technically part of the town of Newtown. From The Powys Montgomeryshire Village Book: "The parish of Llanllwchaiarn is a joint parish of Newtown and covers an area northeast of the town, the river Severn marking the boundary between the two." In 1801 the town had a population of 675.
