John Hodges was born in about 1660 of Nympsfield, Gloucestershire, England. He married Elizabeth Stockwell 4 October 1685 in Nympsfield. Elizabeth was christened 6 February 1665 in Dursley, Gloucestershire, the daughter of Samuell and Elizabeth Stockwell. John and Elizabeth had the following children:
 

1. Thomas, christened 24 October 1686 in Nympsfield.
 

2. Elizabeth, christened 2 November 1688 in Nympsfield; married Nathaniel Clark 26 April 1603 in Dursley.
 

3. James, christened 19 February 1690 in Numpsfield.
 

4. Mary, christened 16 December 1693 in Nympsfield.
 

5. Mary, christened 4 July 1697 in Nympsfield.
 

6. Samuel, christened 15 April 1700 in Nympsfield.
 

7. Richard, christened 17 November 1702 in Nympsfield.
