Scottish couples sometimes married by "hand-festing", or holding hands
on a bridge over water.
From "Walking in South Lorn": "To the west of Kilmelford the mainland
area of Kilbrandon and Kilchattan culminates southwards in the blunt snout
of the Degnish peninsula. Close to the present church of Kilninver, at
the eastern end of Glen Risdale, is the tiny ruined graveyard of the earlier
mediaeval church of Cill na h-Inbhir, dedicated to St. Beoan. Nothing now
remains of the old church itself, but the graveyard contains memorials
dating back to 1721."
