From "Walking in South Lorn": "The area of Kilmelford is endowed with reminders of the distant and mysterious past. Here, in the grounds of Melfort House, were found the earliest relics of Bronze Age Lorn, in the shape of two beautifuly worked metal armlets, together with a magnificent crescent-shaped necklace of jet beads."
